PREPREQ: MIC 101 with 2.0 or better or ability to use MS Office. Mechanics of web page production starting with the absolute basics. Topics include: document structure, text elements, list elements, links, tables, framesets and images. Focuses on creating HTML files by hand with emphasis placed on browser compatibility issues and XHTML validation. Learn how how to use FTP tools and assess and implement web customers
IMPORTANT The following WEB110 *REQUIRED MATERIALS are due before our 2nd class (January 6th, Wednesday) begins.
- * One USB Thumb Drive - at least 256MB capacity
- * Activate your SCCC Google Apps account (Learn how here)
- * One USB headset with microphone - This has become an expected "tool of our trade". We will be learning how to communicate "live/real-time" online so you can be better prepared to communicate with your peers and customers. I recommend the "USB" types as they are the easiest to manage from computer to computer. I also offer online assistance outside our scheduled class time using this communication tool.
- * 2 Textbooks - Our class textbooks are available in our SCCC Bookstore but can also be purchased elsewhere, if you're not bound to campus funding concerns.
By the 2nd week of the quarter, everyone should have 20 MB's of Web Server Space with SCCC IF they've paid their Computer lab fee. You'll know you have server space if you find your name listed amongst the Student Web Accounts: http://seattlecentral.org/computing/stuwebaccts.php
Students can also get 250 MB's of free server space here http://freehostia.com
I recommend these folks because they provide their free service without banners or advertising code embedded into your hard work. Learn how to get an account and FTP to it with my 3 min. movie
